Condolence From: A. Stepney
Condolence: Dear Family, I know that even though some time has passed, you are still mourning and enduring the death of your child. A friend of mine says that losing a loved one is like having a small hole in your heart that won't be filled until you see that loved one again. The good news is that Jesus Christ promised that we would have the opportunity to see our dead loved ones again. At John 5:28, 29 Jesus Christ says, Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come...to a resurrection..." Also at Matthew 5:5 Jesus Christ says, "Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth." Based on Jesus Christ's promises, we can look forward to seeing our dead loved ones alive again on the earth with us. What a wonderful privilege that is held out for us. Until that promised time comes, may the memories of your son warm your heart.

The devastation in Brock’s voice (Brock Vereen #21) when he called us last Friday morning said it all. It told us what a great teammate, friend & brother Gary was to his Golden Gophers family. We must all allow ourselves time to grieve, then let the warm memories of a wonderful young man give us the strength to carry on. May God Bless you and hold you close during this difficult time.

My step-son Judd Paffrath played with Gary as a middle linebacker, currently had a class with GT and spoke so highly of GT. Condolence: The Tinsley Family, Perhaps learning how much Gary positively impacted other's lives may ease a little bit of your pain. Our son Pete is a freshman linebacker at Minnesota and forever will be grateful to GT as the veteran player who always cared about and encouraged his teammates, even the rookies. He did it in small ways that made a big difference. There is no doubt that Gary's love for life and other people will live on in those he inspired. Condolence From: The Bak Family
Condolence: Gary fought for life, for others, for his team, for his friends, and became the honorable man whose legacy remains. I believe that in those last moments, God was also fighting - for Gary. God doesn't take "NO" for an answer; God's "YES" is that He has not let go of Gary - and He will not let go of you. 'Know that we, like so many of the football parents, are holding you in prayer every day. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith," 2 Timothy 4:7. With all our love, The Bak Family

Condolence From: Coach Kill and the Gopher Football Staff
Condolence: We wanted to let everyone know what a large impact Gary had on and off the field. As a football player Gary led by example. He loved to play the game. He truly gave every ounce of effort he had and was a great example for his teammates. We think it is very important that everyone knows that he was an excellent teammate. It didn't matter where you came from or who you were, Gary was going to make sure you were doing all right and he was going to take care of you. In our opinion he is a definition of what a good teammate should be. As for our fans, everyone loved Gary's million dollar smile. He embraced the fans and always took time out to make sure they felt important. As a head Coach I know he always made my wife feel good. Every time he saw her he gave her a big hug! That is the type of guy he was. In life I say there are givers and takers, Gary was the ultimate giver. He was involved in many community service projects and always willing to give back to the community to help make it better. As for Gary as a student, I think what happened Tuesday afternoon sums it up. Professor Frank Placheki, from his Teaching and Marketing class, brought a group of students over to let me know what an inspiration Gary was in the classroom. These were students, not football players that came over and passed on what a difference Gary made in their lives and in the classroom. They wanted to make sure everyone knew Gary was as good as student as he was a football player and that he took his school work seriously. They shared with me that he had a great business mind, and was certainly an impact in their class. Although Gary has passed, he has left a very strong legacy here at the University of Minnesota. He has earned his college degree and has been inspirational to many. We all miss Gary very much. But we know he has the best seat in the house. In addition, I feel like he is making us all better every day. May God bless the Tinsley family, and we want to thank you for sharing Gary with us. Coach Kill and Staff
