Obituary for Freshanda D. Callahan

Freshanda D. Callahan
Miss Freshanda Denise Callahan was born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 23, 1986. Affectionately called “Fresh” by her friends, she was a proud 2005 graduate of Terry Parker High School. She was crowned prom queen, was a member of Ladies of Infinity, and served on the student council board. Freshanda was in the Upward Bound Program at Jacksonville University from 2002-2005. In 2008, after obtaining her AA degree, Freshanda was accepted into the Respiratory Therapy Program at Florida State College of Jacksonville. Shortly after being accepted into the program, she fell ill and was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus. She decided early in life she wanted to work in the medical field. First she wanted to be a paramedic, then a pediatrician, and finally a respiratory therapist. She was very compassionate, and loved helping people. She would have been the best respiratory therapist in this city.
Freshanda was a member of The Church of the Risen Lord.
She worked as an assistant to her mother at Imagine This Hair Designs from the age of fourteen until the beginning of 2012. She worked at Steak ‘N Shake off and on from 2005-2012. She worked for a short time in 2011 at Florida Mentor (a facility for children and adults who are mentally and physically compromised). She was most recently employed at Sam’s Club (Beach Blvd.) as a cashier.
Freshanda loved working at Sam’s. She admired the way management treated their employees, and appreciated the company’s policies and benefits. Although her health was fragile, she looked forward to going to work at Sam’s. Each day after work she would have a story about how kind and considerate Sam’s management and her co-workers were of her physical limitations, how much she enjoyed helping the customers, how much the customers appreciated her efforts, and all the friendly/familiar faces she saw.
Freshanda was an excellent cook. She began cooking full meals for the family at the age of ten. She had no children of her own, but she nurtured countless babies. She was a loving/proud/doting aunt to her beloved Heaven Doles and Rock Doles. They were her everything. She also was the godmother of four boys: Terrence Ivy, Jr., Terron Ivy, Titus Ivy, and Mikael Toomer.
Freshanda passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 due to complications from Lupus. She was preceded in death by her brother, Brantley Callahan; maternal grandparents (Charles Doles and Mary Doles); step-grandfather, Gary Hill; uncle (Charles “Cha Doe” Doles); and three aunts (Darlene Doles and *Charlotte Doles*, who mysteriously disappeared without a trace in 1983 at the age of 19) and LaShanda D. Callahan. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted mother, Loraine Doles-Morgan (Quinton); father, Frederick W. Callahan, Jr.; 4 brothers: Frederick W. Callahan III, Sedrick, Roderick and Brandon Callahan; 8 sisters: Samerica Doles, Jaimee Morgan, Kim, Joy, Brittany, Brandi, Jasmine and La’Audrey Callahan; step-brother, Kyle Morgan; step-sister, Bria Jarrell; paternal grandfather, Fred W. Callahan (Gladys); paternal grandmother, Mamie Lou Callahan; step-grandmother, Billie A. Hill; aunts: Roslyn Ransom (Albert), Yolanda F. Callahan, Florence Callahan-Moore (Benny); a beloved uncle, Al Callahan, as well as a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many sorrowing friends…including best friends Shon Drae Ivy and Ronica Joquin; cousins, Shakora Watson and Yasmene McCrary-Jackson; and dear friends Terry Harris-Dixon and Charlette James (Adolph). **Everybody loved “Pookie”**
