Obituary for Betty Monroe

Ms. Betty Louise Monroe, was born on July 23, 1946, to the late, Reverend Walter Perkins and Rosa Lee Finn. She was reared by her grandmother, Ethel Tucker where many valuable lessons in life were learned. She graduated from Stanton High School, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Florida in June of 1974, and her Master of Science from Nova University in December of 1978.

Betty Monroe was known in the community for her activism for education. She enjoyed her grandchildren and studying the bible. She began her career as an educator with Sunland Training Center in the early 1970’s, while working with mentally challenged children it was there that she decided to pursue a career in education. She worked for the Duval County School Board as an educator until her retirement.

While she laid peacefully, and quietly in her bedroom at home, with Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and her children and grandchildren by her side, her sunset and the completion of life on this side occurred on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Betty was sixty-eight years young. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty leaves to cherish her legacy, her loving children, Timothy Monroe, Sr. (Dionne), Melissa Elise Monroe, Ta’Brisha Simmons and Carlos Monroe; grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Daria Jenkins, Trevon Monroe, Demetrius Pollard, D’Mari Pollard, Damonte Pollard, Jasmine Butler, Tyray Hobdy, Darion Butler, Jr.; a host of great-grandchildren; ten siblings, Carritha, Mildred, Bennie, James Michael, Rudolph, Samuel, Ester, Phillip, Samuel Lee and Billy; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-laws, other family members and friends.

The funeral service for Betty Monroe will be held 11:00 AM SATURDAYat the North Jacksonville Church of God, 7600 Kenya St. The visitation will be held 5 - 7:00pm Friday.
