Obituary for Roy Oscar "So-So" Rhodes

Mr. Roy Oscar Rhodes was born to the late Olivia Manigo Rhodes and Joseph Elijah Rhodes, in Walterboro, South Carolina on October 27, 1953. Roy completed his elementary school studies in the Colleton County public schools and furthered his studies when the family moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1965, in the Duval County public schools system.

Roy was a dedicated member of the United States of America Armed Forces, Army Divison, where he served in Stuttgart, Germany. Later, he worked in the construction industry in Jacksonville.

Roy affectionately known as “So-So”, will be remembered for his bubbly and humorous personality. He was loved by so many people. A beautiful life of 62 years ended on January 6, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside. He is now resting in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Roy was preceded in death by his parent; daughter, Jennifer Miller; brothers, Silas Rhodes and Bobby Rhodes; sisters, Willie Olivia Scott and Lou Eva Washington.

Roy is survived by his sisters, Josie R. Ford, Round-O, South Carolina, Gertrude Williams, Jacksonville, Florida, Rose Singleton (Johnny), Englewood, New Jersey, and Carrie R. Washington (Cleaster), Jacksonville, Florida; 5 nephews; 9 nieces; a host of grand-nieces and nephews; great-grandnieces and nephews; cousins; friends; and a special friend, Irene Abrams.
