Obituary for Erma Jean Thompson

Mrs. Erma Jean Thompson was born on November 15, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Samuel Charles Thompson and Katie Lee Thompson. She was the fourth of six children born into this union. Erma attended the local elementary and junior high schools here in Jacksonville, and Howard Academy of Monticello, Florida for her tenth and eleventh grades; then graduating from New Stanton Senior High School in 1960. After graduating from high school, she attended Edward Waters College. She continued her education at Florida Junior College where she received an Associate’s Degree of Nursing in 1989.

Erma accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at an early age. For most of her life she was a member of First Baptist of Oakland. She joined Faith Christian Center (Impact Church) where she served diligently in the church bookstore. Erma was employed by Jacksonville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as the Assistant Director of Nursing.

Erma was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She departed this life on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Samuel Charles, Jr.; sisters, Mattie Cochran and Patricia Graham.

Erma leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Mr. Charles E. Thompson, Jr.; children, Mrs. Andrea Norman (Gary), Adrian Thompson, Charles E. Thompson, III (Michelle); grandchildren, Erica Kennebrew, Elise Kennebrew, James Kennebrew, IV, Adrian Charles Thompson, Jocilyn Goodwin Thompson, Janae Thompson, and Charlee Thompson; great-grandchildren, Dani Adams, Ryann Kennebrew, Greyson Pulliam, Jadeja Kennebrew, and Asiah Kennebrew; sister, Rose Massey; brother, Terry Thompson; one brother-in-law; five sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The funeral service for Erma Jean Thompson will be held 12:00 PM, SATURDAY at the Impact Church, 8985 Lone Star Rd. The visitation will be held 5 - 8:00 PM , Friday at the mortuary.
