Obituary for Shirley Kent

Shirley Elaine Grier-Kent was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 20, 1952 to the late Sandy Grier and Eva Marie Grier. She was married to the late Willie Kent. Shirley received her education through the Duval County public school system. Shirley accepted Christ as her Savior and was a member of the Good Samaritan Church. Her favorite song was “I Believe I’ll Run On And See What The End Is Going To Be”.

Shirley was employed for several years at Seaboard Coastline. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, auntie, and friend. Shirley enjoyed music “the oldies” and fishing. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and took pleasure in being a blessing to them. That blessing would surely be followed up with some good old advice (whether you wanted to hear it or not). Shirley had a very giving and loving spirit; if you ever told her you loved her you would get the reply: “I Love You More”.

Shirley departed this life on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Sandra Sannon; beloved brothers, Sandy Grier, Jr., Bennie Grier, and Elder Lawrence James.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Angela Denise Barnes (Charles), Pamela Marie Mack (Anthony), Vannetta Latrice Davis-Felix (Anthony), Shalanda Mashelle Rock (Anthony), Sandra Diane Merritt (Joe), and Angela Boston (Donald); sisters and brothers, Carolyn Latimer, Lorretta Stewart, Debbie James, Brenda Caughman (Larry), Rosalyn Thomas, William James (Eunice), and Victor Richard James; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ciera Groover (Cassidy Brown), Brittany Grier (Jordan Allen Grier-Peer), Breanna Barnes (Nevaeh George), Aliyah Barnes, Anthony Mack, Jr., Trey Mack, Anthony Felix, Jr., Antonio Felix, Antwone Felix, Zachary Pandy, Jazmyne Williams, Chance Stevens, Faith Pinkney, Shy’dai Grier-Jenkins, and Donald Boston, Jr.; devoted friends, Maurice Alexander, Mary Maddox, and Gwendolyn Hester; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
