Obituary for Susie Dee Rhodes

Mrs. Susie Dee Rhodes, one of eight siblings was born to the late Rev. Thomas Mercer and Mrs. Lena Mae Mercer on September 22, 1935 in Americus, Georgia. Susie attended Old Stanton High School, Class of 1953. Susie was employed with Anchor Hocking Glass Company, and J.C. Penney’s Department Store. She was a member of St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ernie L. Murray, Sr., she served in the Mass Choir, a member of the Sunday School Department, and District #4, Leader Deacon James H. Burroughs.

Susie gently laid her head on the bosom of Christ and peacefully passed away on August 19, 2016 at Northeast Florida Hospice, Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Susie leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Michael Hayes (late Rosetta), Jeffrey Newberry (Cassandra), and Kenneth Newberry (Cassandra); a daughter, Annette Rhodes; grandchildren, Michael, Mario, Brandon, Bryan, Jeffrey Jr., Jamaque “aka Lamont”, Kianca, Rhapsody, LaTisha, Seanta, Kennyetta, and Sean; twenty-six great-grandchildren; god children, Margie, Deborah, Booker, and Freddie; special caretaker, her niece Valarie Footman; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends.

The funeral service for Susie Dee Rhodes will be held 11AM, Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at the St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church. The visitation will be 5 - 8PM , Friday, at the mortuary.
