Obituary for GWENDOLYN ARMWOOD

GWENDOLYN ARMWOOD
Gwendolyn Armwood affectionately known as “Gwen” was born on February 17, 1962 in Arlington, Georgia. She was the daughter of Myra Wallace Moore and Willie B. Henderson. Gwen attended the public schools of Duval County and Teaneck, New Jersey. She conceived her two oldest children, Yvette and Danny Adams during this time. Gwen went on to Jones College where she graduated as a phlebotomist and worked at Duval Medical Center for a period of time.

Gwen met and married Jasper Earl Armwood Jr. and moved to Charleston, South Carolina and to this union three more children were born. Gwen returned to Jacksonville, Florida and worked as a bus driver for the Duval County School Board, during the day and drove trucks for the Florida Times Union at night. Years later she adopted her nephew, Jeryle Whitfield.

Gwen accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Apostle Faith Miracle Church, under the leadership of Bishop A.L. Jones Sr. She served as president of the Missionary Board and worked faithfully in the church. Gwen also was a member of voices of the Southbank Toastmasters Club of Aetna. Gwen worked for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority as a bus driver for the last 18 plus years and was a member of the JTA Union Honor Guard Society. Gwen was a kind, loving, and wonderful person who would fight for what she believed in. She was raised to be a strong and independent woman.

On Monday, January 30, 2017 at Community Hospice Center for Caring at St. Vincent’s Riverside her Lord and Savior called her home as her fight with colon cancer had finally come to an end. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jacqueline Owens and Debra Edwards.

Gwen leaves to cherish loving memories with her mother, Myra Wallace Moore and stepfather, Douglas Moore; father, Willie B. Henderson; children, Yvette Adams, Danny Adams, Jaleesa Armwood Cole (Demoris Cole), Corey Armwood, Jasmine Armwood, and Jeryle Whitfield; sisters, Veronica Moore, Marilyn Henderson, and Sybil Henderson; brothers, Willie B.
