Ruby Alice Highsmith Young was born on November 20, 1937 to the late Lucy Holmes-Washington and Arthur Holmes, Sr. in Perry, Georgia. She attended the Perry Georgia High School. Ruby confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized.

Ruby departed this life on Saturday, February 4, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Young; daughter, Patricia Highsmith; sister, Edwina Moye and Deris Jean Washington; brothers, Otto Holmes, Arthur Holmes, and Ronnie Washington.

Ruby leaves to cherish memories: sons, Avery “Lamar” Highsmith, Larry Darnell Highsmith, and Travis Washington; sisters, Ernestine Washington, Patricia “Diane” Washington, and Lottie Israel; brother, Leon Washington; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, a special friend, Joyce; and many other sorrowing friends.
