Obituary for GLORIA LUCAS
Gloria Joyce Lucas was born on October 17, 1955 to James Frank Coates and Bernice Caldwell. She was raised in Jacksonville, Florida and educated in the Public School System through her middle school years. The family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida when she was a teenager, and Gloria graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach. After graduation, Gloria met her future husband, Wayne Lucas. They were married in 1974 and welcomed their first child, a son, Shannon, in 1975. They remained in Florida until Wayne was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia and then to Huntsville, Alabama while in the Airforce. While in Huntsville, they welcomed their second child, a daughter, Wynema.
The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they established roots and raised their family. Gloria was a diligent worker in the Accounts Receivable field, holding positions with distribution companies in the metro Atlanta area. Gloria was often found supporting her children at their various sporting events and educational affairs. In her “free time”, she enjoyed spending time with her family doing any activities as long as it involved everyone.
Gloria attended Hopewell Church until her physical limitations did not enable her to. Even though she was not physically at Hopewell Church, she was often found watching services on television and bragging to her friends about Pastor Williams’s sermons.
Gloria departed this life on Thursday, February 9, 2017. She will certainly be missed, but her infectious, positive spirit will not be forgotten. She loved the Lord most of all, and loved her family and friends with zeal and compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Frank Coates and Bernice Caldwell; husband, Wayne Lucas; and a brother, Ernest Jones.
Gloria leaves fond memories to be cherished by her son, Shannon Lucas (Erica); and daughter, Wynema Williams (Kelvin); grandchildren, Liam Lucas and Ella Lucas; nieces, Brenda Griffin and Lesa Jones; great nephew, Audwin Engram; great niece, Brittany Griffin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
