Obituary for REV. JAMES HAYES SR

REV. JAMES  HAYES SR
Rev. James C. Hayes was born on May 24, 1935 in Baldwin, Florida to the late Willie Hayes and Ethel Mae West Hayes. Rev. Hayes received his primary education in Baldwin and attended high school in Duval County, graduating from Old Stanton High School. After graduating Rev. Hayes enlisted in the United Stated Army during the Korean War. He later completed his education at Edward Waters College earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree.

Rev. Hayes was a well-known barber and a man of faith, he accepted Christ at an early age and would later become a pastor with the African Methodist Episcopal Church until his retirement in 2005.

Rev. Hayes went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 16, 2017. He will be remembered as the husband of the late Mattie Reed Hayes; he was also preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ethel Hayes; children, Khadija Hayes, Cheryl Hayes Gatlin, and Jessica Brinson; brothers, Willie Hayes Jr., Alphonso Hayes, and Clyde Hayes;

Rev. Hayes will be remembered as a loving and cherished father by his children: Patricia Jackson (Willie), Rev. James C. Hayes, Jr. (Jean Delores), LoveVonia Nathan (Woodrow), Pamela Hayes McKnight, Ivory Rhodes, Jacqueline Rhodes, Darryl Rhodes, Theresa Johnson (Van), Mervin Rhodes, Patrolia Kinsey-Jackson (Willie), Stefanie Kinsey-Seldon, Deborah Williams, Kadetta Hayes and Henry McKinnon Jr. grandson that were reared by their grandfather; Rev. Hayes also leaves behind 8 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law, 31 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; relatives; and his beloved church family (Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church).

The funeral service for REV. JAMES HAYES, SR. will be held 11:00 AM, FRIDAY, at the Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, 3026 Woodlawn Rd. The visitation will be held 5-7:00 pm, Thursday at the mortuary.
