Obituary for Verleen R Herring
Verleen R Herring was born on May 20, 1937 in Tifton, Georgia to Richard Lee and Susie Mae Riggins. She attended and received her education at Lincoln High School in Gainesville, Florida.
Verleen confessed Christ at an early age where she was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church. Verleen later converted to a Jehovah’s Witness. Verleen worked for the Jacksonville Sheriff Department for 29 years. She married Raiford Herring Sr. in Gainesville, Florida on January 20, 1954, from this union three sons and two daughters were born.
Verleen departed this life on Thursday, March 23, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raiford Herring, Sr.; three sons, Raiford Herring Jr., Carlton Herring, and Jon Lee Herring.
Verleen leaves to mourn her passing: her daughters, Elinor J Holmes (Anthony) and Margaret A. Ward; sibling, Jossie Lee Davis, Odean Thomas (Andrew), Sarah Marie Jones, and Suzzetta Riggins; six grandchildren, Raiford Herring III, Daniel Demery, Michell Berry (Reggie), Va’Shaundra Ward, Victoria Ward, and Va’Kia Ward; ten great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
The chapel service for VERLEEN R HERRING will be held 11AM Friday, March 31st, 2017 at Samuel C. Rogers, Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N. Main St. The visitation will begin one hour before the service.
