Obituary for Mildred H Carter (Moody)

Mildred H. Carter was born on April 2, 1925 to the late Richard and Fannie Moody in Utica, New York. Her family lived in Virginia and later moved to New York during Mildred’s childhood. Mildred was the youngest child of nine. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School in New York City.

Mildred’s first marriage was to Linwood Henderson. She later married Elwood Joseph Carter on July 29, 1965 and lived in New York for a while, later moving with her family to Jacksonville, Florida.

Mildred worked for the United States Government. She loved to read, watch movies, dine out, sing in the choir, and attend Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. She also enjoyed watching Judge Judy and Steve Harvey’s Family Feud. Mildred has volunteered at Shands Hospital for many years; however, she retired in 2016.

Mildred at the age of 92, transitioned on Monday, April 9, 2017. Her husband, Elwood Joseph Carter transitioned on November 10, 1990.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Llinda Henderson Jennings; granddaughter, Llinda Carrie; great-grandson, Calil; sister, Mabel Handy; sister-in-law, Juanita Carter; nieces, Deitra Handy and Esther Boyd; great-niece, Love Cassey Gichuki; many other nieces, nephews, cousins in New York, Maryland, Florida and South Carolina.
