Obituary for Leroy Johnson

Leroy Johnson was born on May 6, 1934 and raised in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Quillie Mack and Tisher Johnson. He received his education in the local schools there, and was a hard worker picking cotton and growing soiler beans on the farm. Leroy attended the family church, New Covenant United Methodist Church, Bowman, South Carolina.

Later in life, Leroy moved to Jacksonville, Florida and began working for trucking companies and retired from South Wheel and Rim Company for many years. He then met and united in wedlock, Albertha Parker, on August 31, 1957. Leroy was well known riding up and down Avenue “B”, taking people to the store and just being a sweet person if he can help you; never talked a lot just a quite man.

On September 20, 2017 approximately 3:45pm he looked up at the angels and slept away with a beautiful smile on his face. He was preceded in death by both his parents; brother, Henry; sister, Shirley Ann; grandparents on both sides of the family; aunts; uncles; and many cousins.

Leroy leaves memories to be cherished by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Alberta Parker Johnson; son, Major Parker (Rose); sisters, Mattie Bell Robinson, Gracie Bookard (Thomas, Jr); grandsons, Johnathan, Nathaniel and Major Jr.; granddaughter, Tameia Parker; faithful nieces, Linda Brinder, and Patricia; dedicated cousin, Stephanie Bennett-Jones; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and many friends, especially friends on Avenue “B”.

Leroy Johnson will be truly missed!
