Obituary for Sallie Mae Hardeman

Sallie Mae Hardeman was born on October 27, 1916, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late George and Elizabeth Gross. She received her early education in Duval County, where she attended the “old” Stanton High School. She served Christ in her early life uniting with the Antioch Baptist Church. She fell in love and united in holy matrimony to the late and handsome, Eugene Hardeman, Sr. From this union, eleven children were born.

Sallie departed this life on February 20, 2018, peacefully in her sleep. She was preceded in death by sons, Eugene Jr., Roosevelt, Willie James and Leonard Hardeman; daughters, Rose Patterson, Mary Hardeman, Martha Walker and Bernice Anderson.

Sallie was a devoted mother and homemaker, always enjoying the presence of her family. She was the "ultimate" grandmother. Her home was always a place of abounding, where you could always be assured of a good meal. She enjoyed cooking, reading her daily Jacksonville Times Union Newspaper and sipping on her morning coffee, of course dipping it with her toast.

Sallie leaves to cherish her memories, loving daughters, Alice Austin, Florina (Frank) Seward; sons, Leroy Hardeman and Ralph Taylor; daughters-in-law, Dorothy Hardeman and Thelma Hardeman; devoted caregiver and granddaughter, Bridgette Anderson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral service for Sallie Mae Hardeman will be held 10:00 am Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 at the Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, 10325 Interstate Center Drive. The visitation will be 5 - 7:00 pm, Friday at the mortuary. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Please sign the family guest book @ www.tswarden.com. Arrangements in care of Tyrone S.
