Emma Lou Jefferson was born on November 27, 1938 in Preston, Georgia to her parents, Ruby L. Jones and Thomas Jackson. She confessed Christ at an early age uniting with the All People International Church. She received her education at Webster County Public Schools.

Emma Lou later met and married Rufus S. Jefferson in Charlton County, Georgia on February 19, 1982.

Emma Lou departed this life on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 and was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and three brothers. She leaves to mourn her passing daughters, Mary (Ronald) Thomas; Brenda Hamilton, and Lenora Jones; grandchildren, Kevin Hamilton, Shanora Hamilton, Selena Ross, Roderick Hamilton, Michael Ross, Devonare Jones, and Leroy (Girard) Whitaker; sixteen great-grandchildren; seven brothers; seven sisters; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and church family.
