Obituary for Catherine Roberts Covington

Catherine R. Covington was born to her parents Deacon O’Neal and Evangelist Essie Mae Roberts on July 30, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended Duval County public and private schools graduating from the New Stanton High School, Class of 1961, where she was very involved in many extra-curricular programs. After graduation, she attended Edward Waters College studying Nursing. She married the love of her life, Charles (Little Boy) Covington, who proceeded her in death. They enjoyed a long and prosperous marriage.

Catherine R. Covington was a dedicated employee of St. Vincent’s Medical Center for most of her career. She was often seen working at Little League and High School Athletic programs.

Catherine R. Covington loved the Lord and is known by some as an activist of the church. She was a faithful member of New Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She later joined the Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church where she participated on and presided over many church programs. She was a very familiar face and actively involved in the Florida General Baptist Convention and The Union Progressive Baptist Association. She was a committed member of the church Culinary, Visitation (Chaplain), Senior Saints Ministries and the President General Missionaries where she served with a pleasant and sweet spirit.

Catherine R. Covington adored and loved her family. She was a loving, proud and elegant mother to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, cousins, nephews, in-laws, siblings and many adopted family and friends. She did not miss a game, recital, play, program and community events. Meeting the needs of others, visiting and praying for the sick, giving to the less fortunate was her passion. She would make a point to attend birth of babies and celebration of life of friends and loved ones. She enjoyed family gatherings, cross word puzzles and traveling in her spare time. Selfless epitomized her life and her deeds. She was a tireless and faithful soldier, showing the resolve care for others in illness. Through it all, she never complained and maintained her smile to the end. She had extraordinary energy and resolve.

Catherine R. Covington was preceded in death by O’Neal and Essie Mae Roberts, Frank and Annie Haynes, her siblings Essie Mae Roberts, Oneal Roberts Jr., and Edward Roberts and leaves to cherish her memories and legacy sons Tony (Wendy) Covington Esq., Chris Covington, Ronald Covington (Lisa Special Acquaintance), Eric (Amanda) Covington and Randy (Keshia) Covington; siblings- Louise Grey, Joyce Roberts, Curtis Roberts, John Henry Roberts, Robert Demry, Gerald Roberts and Ricky Roberts; grandchildren – Corey Covington, Cortney (John) Kennedy, Candace Covington, Dr. Tony Covington II, Dr. Tevin Covington, Tyler Covington, Carrington Covington, Kacee Selvig, Kevin Covington, Demetrius Covington, Vanitie Hernandez, Tabatha Hernandez, Sasha Covington, Simone Covington, Deondre Allen, Rashawn Covington, Rylan Covington, Kheilan Haynes; great grandchildren- Corey Covington Jr., Jamari Charles Covington, Jachelle Kennedy and John Kennedy IV. She leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews She leaves a special thank you to Mrs. Brenda Jackson and all her dear friends who assisted her in her time of illness. Finally, she leaves to cherish her dear Bassanova Court family; Mrs. Bobby, Mrs. Lucille, Mrs. Joanne, Mrs. Jean and others.

The funeral service for Catherine R. Covington will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 15th, 2020 at the Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church 2407 S.L. Badger Jr. Circle, E. Jacksonville, FL 32209. The visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 14th, 2020 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Edgewood Cemetery.
