Thelma Elouise Brookins Johnson passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2014. She was born on March 17, 1918 in Jacksonville, FL. She was the seventh child of Walter and Annie Lundy Brookins. She attended local schools in Jacksonville, FL, graduating from Stanton (Old Stanton) High School. Later she attended and graduated from Tuskegee Institute, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.

For over thirty years, Thelma taught school in the Fernandina and Jacksonville school systems. Thelma was a lifelong and faithful member of Central Metropolitan C.M.E Church, serving in numerous capacities as a member of the Usher Board, stewardess, Sunday School Scholar, Teacher in the Tutorial Program and President of the Missionary Society. Thelma was a devoted and loyal member at her demise.

Preceding her in death were her parents Walter and Annie Brookins, Sisters Cora Belle Dukes, Annie Elizabeth Shipp and Alicia Baety; Brothers Walter Brookins, Charles Brookins, and Fred Brookins; nephews Ulysees Baety Jr, Walter G. Baety, Reginald Baety.

She leaves to cherish her memory, grandnephews: Walter Baety IV, Jonathan Baety, Edward Baety, Jr, Christopher Baety, Paxton Baety, Leon Shipp Belt; Grandneice Joselyn Baety, Nephews: Edward (Patricia) Baety, Fred V. Baety, Horace Shipp Jr, Walter (Denise) Shipp, Joseph (Brenda) Baety, Harold Dukes and Ronald Baety; Nieces: Ruth Baety, Jacquelyn Shipp Belt and Sue (Hugh) Baety Fray; caregiver Wanda Glover; great-grands and a host of family and friends.

The funeral service for Thelma E. Johnson will be held 11:00 AM, TUESDAY at the Central C.M.E. Church 4611 N. Pearl St. . The visitation will be held 5 - 7:00 PM Monday at the mortuary.
