Alfred “Al” Johnson, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22nd. 2020. He was born on October 26, 1943, in Gainesville, Florida to the late Sheba and Marion Johnson. Alfred grew up in Gainesville Florida, where he attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. Not long after, he landed a job working for the University of Florida where he retired from. After retirement, he moved to Clearwater, Florida where he held several jobs including working for the Pinellas County School board. On January 8th, 1994, he married the love of his life, Lula Mae Price in Safety Harbor, Florida. After his marriage and dedicating 17 years working for the School board as a custodial attendant, he retired and moved to Jacksonville, Florida.
Despite two retirements under his belt, Al knew deep down he was not done with providing a service for others and landed a job as a Wash Rack Attendant for the company Honeywell. After dedicating 10 years of service, he made the decision to take an early retirement due to a decline in his health status.
Al was a beloved son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, nephew, cousin, and great friend, who dedicated many years of his life helping others. In service to his faith, he was an active member and usher at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church for many years. He had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed with his faith no matter what obstacle was placed before him. Al stood firm in his faith and love for God up until his final breath.
Al enjoyed going to church, fishing, cruising, working in his yard, taking care of his pool, and spending time with his family. In addition to watching his favorite Westerns, he thoroughly enjoyed watching his favorite sports team, the Florida Gators, win, lose or draw. Alfred was an exceptional man who always had a heart for helping anyone in need.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Althea Johnson-Wims and Rosemary Johnson-Dunn. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Lula Johnson; sons, Terri (Patricia), Alfred (Judy), Steve (Dorothy), David, and Fred; daughters, Andrea (“Boo”) Johnson and Latonya Johnson; sister, Mary E. Johnson- Danzy; brothers; Johnell Johnson (Cynthia) and Marion Charles Johnson. Al will be fondly remembered by his stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.
The funeral service for Alfred Johnson will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 10th, 2020 at the Bethel Baptist Institutional Church 215 Bethel Baptist Street Jacksonville, FL 32202. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 9th, 2020 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Edgewood Cemetery.
