Alfred Whitley was born in Indianola, Mississippi on March 26, 1935 to Elisha and Mary Ella Whitley. He confessed Christ at an early age and united with Oakland Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. He received his education in the Detroit Public School System and went on to work as a chauffeur for the greater part of his life.

Alfred later met and married JoAnne in Detroit, Michigan. No children were born from their union. Alfred departed this life on Monday, April 27, 2020. He was the youngest and last remaining of thirteen siblings. Preceding him in death are his parent, Elisha and Mary Ella Whitley. Brothers, Willie Whitley, Henry Whitley, Elisha Whitley, Abraham Whitley, Robert Whitley, MC Whitley, Sylvester Whitley, McKinley Whitley, and Gilbert Whitley. Sisters, Laura Whitley-Sloan, Rosetta Whitley-Trotter and Thelma Whitley-Brooks.

Alfred also leaves to mourn his passing his loving and devoted wife JoAnne Whitley. Six children, Ronald Whitley (Rebecca), Alfred Whitley, Jr. (deceased), Deano Whitley, Tony Whitley, Tonya Whitley, and Alvin Whitley, and a host of other relatives and friends.
