Obituary for Audrey Ramsey Caulfield

Audrey Marie Ramsey Caulfield, affectionately known as “MommaHouse,” was born on June 28, 1935 to the union of Joseph Curtis, Sr. and Birter Mae Ramsey. She spent her childhood in Greensburg, LA, where she attended Sheridan Chapel AME Church and graduated from Vernon High School in nearby Washington Parish, LA; while a student at Vernon High, she played on the school’s basketball team.

As a young professional, Audrey moved to Chicago, IL where she lived for nine years. While there, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), eventually becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and graduating as salutatorian of her class in the Cook County Nursing Program.

A dedicated and compassionate caregiver, Audrey’s nursing career spanned 51 years and included service at numerous healthcare facilities among them hospitals, nursing homes, and home healthcare agencies, across three states; for a number of years, she also worked as a private duty nurse.

In addition to her professional service, Audrey was also an active church member, having served as Church Secretary and a member of the Board of Stewards at Allen Chapel AME Church in Baton Rouge, LA. She later attended All People International Church in Jacksonville, FL.

Audrey leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter Sharron Ramsey Hubbard of Jacksonville, FL; one son R. Erich Caulfield of New Orleans, LA; three grandsons, Sequon Ramsey of Howard, MD, Robert “Tre” Hubbard, III of Jacksonville, FL, and Marcus Hubbard of Lompoc, CA; four granddaughters, Makyta Compton of Campbellsville, KY, Tiffany Compton of Richmond, KY, Schuylar Ramsey of Greenville, MS, and Olivia Ramsey of Amite, LA; five great grandchildren, Dominique Compton, Tyron Poynter, Amare Poynter, and Serenity Brown, all of Campbellsville, KY, and Alexis Compton of Richmond, KY; five sisters, Ruth James of Southhaven, MS, Belva Cooper of Atlanta, GA, Gloria Ramsey of LaGrange, IL, Kane Montgomery (Samuel) of Walker, LA, and Ulanda Hornsby (Esco) of Walker, LA; three brothers Otis Ramsey of Springfield, MO, O.J. Ramsey (Varetta) of Tickfaw, LA, and Joseph Curtis Ramsey, Jr. (fiancée Dimitre Rogers) of Tickfaw, LA; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Ramsey of Gary, IN, and Dorisshell Ramsey of Greensburg, LA; one aunt Ethel Dell Coleman of Baton Rouge, LA; one goddaughter Yarmicka Martin of Baton Rouge, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Curtis, Sr. and Birter Mae Ramsey; two sons, Marvin Ramsey and Buhl Ramsey; step-mother Mable Ramsey; three sisters, Vera Dokes, Ora Dockery, and Lora McGee; and three brothers, Joseph Ramsey, James Dupree Ramsey, and Alan Ramsey;; one sister-in-law, Mellode Ramsey; and three brothers-in-law, Joe James, Joseph Cooper, and George Dockery.

The visitation for Audrey Ramsey Caulfield will be held Wednesday, April 8th, from 2 - 7PM at the mortuary 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL. Interment is Private.
