Obituary for Bennie "Bubba Snuff" Gathers
Bennie “Bubba Snuff” Gathers was born in Barnwell, South Carolina on March 27, 1941 to his parents, Joseph “Duece” Cummings and Mozell “Whites” Gathers, who preceded him in death. He attended Aiken County Public Schools.
He departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital, in Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice “Sister” Evans.
Earlier in life, he met and married Elease Hankerson in Aiken, South Carolina on September 28, 1963. From this union four sons and two daughters were born. One son, Bennie Bernard Gathers preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory: three sons, Steven Gathers (New Ellenton, SC), Stanley Elmore Gathers (Philippines), and Calvin (Carla) Gathers (Indianapolis, IN); two daughters, Marian (Mickey) Major-Pahn (Graniteville, SC) and Stephanie (Calvin) McLeod, Sr. (Aiken, SC); one sister, Leola Russell, (Goldsboro NC); two aunts: Thelma Hogan (Augusta, GA) and Mary Ealy (Aiken, SC); twelve (12) grandchildren, six (6) great-grandchildren; a hosts of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he cherished; a special friend in Jacksonville, FL, Lula Alexander; and a close friend/brother, Johnny Williams.
The funeral service for Bennie Gathers will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at the Samuel C. Rogers Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N. Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. The visitation will be 5 - 7pm, Friday, February 7th, 2020 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Restlawn Cemeteries.
