Obituary for Catherine Deloris Stafford

On 29 April 1946, William M. Williams Sr. and Annie Tina Williams welcomed their first daughter, Catherine Deloris Williams, into the world.

Catherine (also known as Pit Pat, Pit, Ma, Grandma, Honey) was the fourth eldest of thirteen siblings (Jr., Bucky, Willie, Booboo, Nit, Red, Poochie, Bird, Curly Top, Betty Bo, Finnie, and Jake). She grew up on the westside of Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from New Stanton High School. She continued her education to receive a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Jones College, graduating Magna Cum Laude, a Bachelor of Religious Arts in Biblical Studies, and Master of Arts in Christian Education from Jacksonville Theological Seminary.

On 30 June 1983, she married her husband of 37 years, Lawrence Christian Stafford I. She was the mother of five beautiful children: Colleen Williams (Jaquelyn P. Olds), Rhamon Williams (Mony), Rafael Williams (Ralf), Antina Gibson (Nina), and Lawrence Christian Stafford II (Dedo). She is also the grandmother of three boys, three girls, and one on the way.

Catherine was known to be a private person who rarely asked for help. She, however, seemed to always find a way to help others. She was a mentor, a caregiver, a tutor, a motivator, and a great support to her friends and family.

Over the years she was known to create beautiful needlepoint and floral arrangements, sew clothes, play the piano, sing, and draw. Those were just a few of her many talents and hobbies.

Those who knew her, may have heard her utter the following – “wash your hands”, “wash them again”, “now what you need to do”, “well you know what they say about whole wheat now (insert other nutritional update)…”, “did you see the news?”, “well I finished my IEPs now I gotta help (insert teacher name here)”, “you know Noni will take care of that”, “if it’s homemade I’m not eating it”, “now I already told you what to do.”

During her final years she spent her time caring for her older brother Willie, tutoring, gardening, traveling to Japan and the Grand Canyon, and collecting antiques.

On 24 September 2020, while sleeping and surrounded by loved ones, she took her last breath.

She lived a life of honor, earning her the titles of child of God, amazing wife, outstanding mother, loyal friend and accomplished educator. Now, she finally rests in the hands of God.
