Obituary for Charles Eugene Williams

Charles Eugene Williams was born on June 24,1940 in Ridgeville, South Carolina to the late John Henry Williams Sr. and the Late Rosalie Jenkins-Williams. He was the second oldest of 13 Children. He received his education from Austin High School, Summerville S.C. Charles worked on the Navy base in Charleston, SC before coming to Jacksonville in 1967 where he worked at his Uncle’s Restaurant (Nesbit’s) for many years. He later became employed by Flowers Bakery as a machine operator and retired after 32 years of service. He was a jack of all trades, from working on cars, wiring breaker boxes, Plumbing, and he could build anything. He never met a stranger. He always had a joke to tell and a word of wisdom for anyone he met. He was a kind soul that would give without expecting anything in return. At an early age, he Joined Canaan United Methodist Church in Ridgeville S.C. where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior. He Later recommitted his life to the Lord and knew that God would see him through any situation.

Charles was joined in Holy Matrimony to the Late Esther White-Williams for over 50 years. To this union three children were born, Danette aka Chris, Darryl, and Angela.

Charles departed this life on Friday, June 26, 2020 and was preceded in death by his wife, Esther White-Williams; parents, John Henry Williams Sr. and Rosalie Jenkins-Williams; sisters, Carol Whaley and Theresa Hughey; and brothers, John H. Williams Jr. and Allen Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory three devoted children, Danette “Chris” Merkison (Teddy) of Jacksonville, FL; Darryl E. Williams (Diane) of Tampa, FL; and Angela D. Williams of Jacksonville, FL; four precious grandchildren, Pharryl J. Merkison, Danielle N. Williams, Dorian I. Williams, and David K. Williams; two special nieces (like Grand Children) Jazlyn and Bryanna White; sisters, Willie Mae Wiggins of Jacksonville, FL; Flora Rogers of New York, Mary Davis, Susie Mayo, Reverend Edna Dingle-Stokes, and Alice West (Jonathan) all of South Carolina; brother: Aaron Williams of South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Ruth Vicks, Pastor Eve Davis-White, and Betty Williams; brothers-in-laws, Herbert White (Geneva), Jimi White, and Robert Harris; surviving aunt, Mrs. Hattie Mae Nesbit of Jacksonville, FL and Uncle Albert Jenkins of Pittsburg, PA; close friends, Wallie Lewis and Kelvin Ruth (Shawn); a very special friend, Ms. Jackie Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

The funeral service for Charles Eugene Williams will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 6th, 2020 at the The Heir Church 159 Clark Road Jacksonville, Florida 32218. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, July 3rd, 2020 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Evegreen Cemetery.
