PFC Charlie Wilcher, Jr. was born on October 4, 1929 to the late Charlie Wilcher, Sr. and Allener Perry Wilcher in Sandersville, Georgia. He attended school in Sandersville, Georgia, graduating with honors from T. J. Elder High School in 1948. He confessed Christ and was an active member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent.

Charlie enlisted in the United States Army in the summer of 1950, where he was a POW of the Korean War and was later classified as killed in action in December of 1953. Our mother received a telegram in August of 1951, stating that Charlie had been missing in action since November of 1950. In 1953 he was presumed dead. In the spring of 2015, Charlie’s siblings were contacted by the military staff and was told that some of Charlie’s skeletal remains and metals had been found and were properly identified.

Charlie is survived by his brothers, Sgt. J.W. Wilcher, United States Army, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, A/1C Albert Wilcher, United States Air Force, Apple Valley, Minnesota; sisters, Betty Wilcher Stewart of Jacksonville, Florida, Allener Wilcher Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; several nieces, nephews, their spouses and their offspring's to the fifth generation; along with other relatives and friends.
