Chester Arthur Holmes, Jr. son of the late Chester Holmes, Sr. and Sarah J. Holmes was born on December 17, 1940 in Jacksonville. A lifetime resident of Jacksonville he attended the local Duval County Schools, graduating from Matthew Gilbert High School, Class of 1959. Chester worked for the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and served for many years, before retirement.Chester was affectionately known to family members and friends as “Bubba”, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Chester departed this life on Saturday, July 21, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Willie Holmes, Sr. and Samuel Holmes.

Chester leaves to cherish loving memories: four devoted sisters, Catherine Ross, Evelyn Fagan, Gwendolyn Stephens (Willie) and Leola Scurry; one brother, James Holmes, Sr. (Gladys); uncle, Ethan Norman (Nancy); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
