Clifford Merritt, Jr . was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Clifford Merritt Sr. and Johnnie Bell Merritt. He served in the United States Army in Korea. He received 2 bronze stars. Clifford went to school to be a barber and he also worked at the Veterans Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama. In 1997, Clifford decided to move to Jacksonville, Florida with his family.

Clifford departed this life on June 25, 2019. he was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Princie Bell Jackson; brothers, Walter Merritt, Issac Merritt, Sr., Homer Merritt; son, Clifton Merritt.

Clifford leaves to cherish his memories sisters, Josephine White, Gwen Tucker and Christine Bush; brother, Kenny Merritt; sons, James Merritt, Daniel "Dennis" Merritt, Charles Merritt and Daron Merritt; daughters, Francella L. Merritt-Brooks, Sharon D. Mitchell, Jonie L. Vernon (Victor Bradley) and Vivian D. Newman; grandchildren, LaShunda Lazenberry, Gregory Mitchell, Artisha Mitchell, Terrevio Merritt, Jamie Merritt, Clifford J. Merritt, Darrell "Hawk" Lee and Kelvin; 8 great-grands; a brother-in-law, EC Jackson; special friends, Jack, Ms. Pearl, Ken and Rita; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. 

The funeral service for Clifford Merritt, Jr. will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 5th, 2019 at the Funerals By T. S. Warden - Samuel C. Rogers, Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N Main St Jacksonville, FL 32206. The visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Friday, July 5th, 2019 at the Funerals By T. S.
