Obituary for Coretta Dawn Carter (Pelsey)

Coretta Pelsey Carter, affectionately known as “Dawn”, was born on July 18, 1974 to the late Gracie Lee Pelsey in Jacksonville, FL. She accepted Christ in 1982 and became a member of New Redeem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. E. I. Norman, where she was baptized, participated in various activities with the youth department, and served faithfully on Usher Board #3. She later joined Bethel Baptist Institutional Church under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Rudolph McKissick Sr. and Bishop Rudolph McKissick Jr., where she was a member of the church choir and the choral group, Meachum Clark and Company.

Coretta attended the local schools in Duval County graduating from Jean Ribault Sr. High School, Class of 1992. She was a member of the “Marching 200” Trojan band, playing alto saxophone, and was a member of the Flag Corps under the direction of Mr. Clifford M. Buggs.

She worked in the mortgage industry for over 20 years and, at the time of her demise, was employed at Fairway mortgage as a manager of the Mortgage Processing department.

Coretta loved to laugh, dance, sing praises to the Lord, and she did it all with style from head to toe. Until the time of her death, she remained an independent woman who cared for and loved her sons, family, and friends.
