Obituary for Earnest Lerraine Lanier

Earnest Lerraine Lanier was born on November 10, 1943, to the late James Lee and Hartense Catheral Lanier in Jacksonville, Florida.

He attended the local schools where he graduated from Northwestern Junior-Senior High School, Class of 1961.

Earnest attended Florida Memorial College for several years before he moved to Detroit, Michigan. While in Detroit, he secure a job at Chrysler Motors working as a supervisor on the Assembly Line.

He met and married Rosalyn V. McGhee. To this union Earnest and Mica Lanier were born. He later moved to Southfield, Michigan after retirement.

Earnest was a faithful member of Word Of Faith International Christian Center in Michigan where Bishop Keith Buller pastors. Donations and giving were an important part of his life. He believed in supporting the church and different Christian organizations. Church activities included teaching Sunday School and working as a Deacon.

He loved mentioning that Smokey Robinson once lived across the street from him. Earnest was a world traveler.

After he became ill, he returned home to Jacksonville, Florida in 2018 to live with his sister and brother-in-law, Paul and Shirley Roberts.

He was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Anthony Clark; daughter, Mica Lanier; three sisters, Vera Thomas, Carolyn Bolatiwa and Priscilla Austin.

To cherish his memories, he leaves one son, Earnest D. Lanier; three brothers, Dr. James E. Lanier (Charlene) of Springfield Illinois, Robert Lanier (Katie) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Marvin Lanier of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Shirley Roberts (Paul) of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren, John Arlee, Bakka, and Baarik; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
