Obituary for Essie Lee Daniels (Thompson)

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” ~ John 14:1-3

Essie’s journey to Eternity began on February 15, 1948, where she was born in a loving and Christian home to the parentage of the late Alex Holmes, Jr. and Annie Ruth Thompson Holmes in Bartow, Georgia.  As the oldest of 13 siblings she was a loving and devoted sister to them all.

Essie was educated in the local school system in Bartow, GA where she met her husband, Andrew Daniels, Jr. of 52 years. Essie and her husband, Andrew Jr., (known as Sonny in Georgia, and Bartow to friends in Florida) relocated to Jacksonville in June 1968 to start a brand new life together.  Of that union they were blessed with 2 children, Lora Patterson Calloway (Michael) and Andrew Daniels III.

Essie loved the kitchen where she cooked meals of delight.  She was passionate in her craft which led her to a career in Food Service.  She worked in the Duval County school system for 39 successful years of service. She enjoyed it so much she even worked part time at Morrison’s Restaurant and Piccadilly. Those who knew Essie knew that she had a genuine passion to help those in need while growing her loving family.

As a successful woman of God who lived a quiet life, she loved our Savior, Christ Jesus which led her to the Northside Christ of Christ where she was born again in 1973.  Essie lived a faithful life working in various ministries where she will be missed.

Essie is preceded in death by her mother, Annie Ruth Holmes; father, Alex Holmes, Jr..;  brother, Earl Holmes, and her baby brother, Adam Holmes (Tanisha Holmes).  She will live forever in the hearts of grandchildren, Treval Patterson, Deandrea Patterson, and Tyrell Patterson, Jacksonville, FL; her great-grandchildren, Treyvion, Ah’briya, Ariyanna, and Tre’Shon;  siblings, Annie (Roger) Bell, Carrie (Sam) Gibbons, Rev. Walter (Delores) Holmes,  Daisy Holmes, Bartow, GA, Mattie Lowery, Charles (Earnestine) Holmes, Sr., Robert (Eilean) Holmes, Elouise (Rev Charles) Holloway, Louisville, Georgia; Theodis (Elizabeth) Holmes, Wadley, Georgia; Patricia Johnson, Atlanta , Georgia;  Wright Thompson, Jr., West Palm Beach Florida, Angel LaNora Williams, Conroe, Texas, Sonnie Thompson Belle Glade FL, Wright Thompson, Jr., Augusta, GA, and Luke Wright Thompson.

Left to recall wonderful and loving memories of Essie is her mother-in-law, Johnnie Mae Daniels of Louisville, GA, Wright Thompson, Sr. of Belle Glade, FL; special friends, Beatrice (Amon) Palamore, Deborah (Bobby) Gibson, and Marcia Ellison all of Jacksonville FL and god-daughters, Claytonia Johnson, Amie Timley,  StanVonna Gaulden, Genesis Archer, and Jacquanta Shootes.

Death claims the body, God claims the soul.  It is up to the living to protect the legacy of the dead.  Essie leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other devoted relatives and friends to remember the legacy for which she so unselfishly embodied.
