Obituary for Eugene James Smith Jr.

Mr.  Eugene James Smith Jr. affectionately known as “Henie” was born on August 28, 1936 to the late Eugene J. Smith Sr. and Dorothy E. Smith in Jacksonville, Florida. 

At the age of 16 years old, he pledged to the United States Armed Services. Eugene was a college graduate of Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He worked for Maxwell House Coffee for 11 years and was also a substitute teacher for Duval County Schools. Eugene Smith Jr. served as a Merchant Seaman Marine of the United States for 20 plus years, preceding into his retirement. Eugene was a loving Husband and Devoted Father to his family. 

On Tuesday. December 25th, 2018 on Christmas Day, Eugene gained his wings!

Eugene was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 20 years Georgia Mae Smith; his sister, Loraine S. Davis; and brother, Joseph S. Smith.

Eugene leaves as his legacy 5 children, Bridget Green, Arthur Lee Green, Teresa Evans, Cynthia Smith, and Eugene Green, III; three siblings, Russell Smith (Sandra), Leon Smith (Connie), and Lois Drake; ten loving grandchildren, Quan Sapp, George Sapp, Kapiolani Douglas (Ellis), Eugenia Leonard (Kevin), Jalissa Smith, Alexis Green, Bridarra Lovett, India Green, Destiny Green, and Eugene Green, IV; ten great-grandchildren; daughter-in-love, Gwen Hoffman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and an abundance of friends.

The funeral service for Eugene James Smith, Jr. will be held 9:30 am Monday, December 31st, 2018 at the Funerals By T. S. Warden - Samuel C. Rogers, Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N Main St Jacksonville, FL 32206. The visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Friday, December 28th, 2018 at the Funerals By T. S. Warden - Samuel C.
