Obituary for Flora Mae Sanders

Flora Mae Sanders, 96, affectionately known as mama to her children and Ms. Flora to friends and others. She was born in Sebring, Florida (Highland County) on May 20, 1924 where she grew up and attended public school. After relocating to Jacksonville (Duval County) she met the love of her life and married James Clarence Sanders for some years, and then later separated. She has a rich long history of community service, where she worked and raised a very large family to include, three sets of twins, one set of triplets and three individual children.

Ms. Flora gave her life to the Lord at an early age and instilled the biblical principles of God in all of her children. Her love for God and love for her children were unparalleled. She was a very loving, kind-hearted woman of God who welcomed everyone into her home. She also, always offered them a meal and gave them some words of encouragement. She believed that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect as she role modeled this behavior to her children.

Ms. Flora had several passions. One of her passions was sewing and making curtains for her home and making clothes for her children during their early school years. She also loved fashion and kept herself looking good when out of the home. Another passion of hers was taking pictures and being in front of a camera to preserve the memories of life.

Ms. Flora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings and several of her children.

Ms. Flora leaves to cherish her memory: five sons, Don Davis (Chandra), Harold Davis, Harry Davis (Ardrenia), Jeffery Sanders and Michael Sanders; one daughter, Bernicee Sanders; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Sanders (Willie); eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
