Obituary for Freddie Anthony Isreal Jr.
Mr. Freddie Anthony Isreal was born October 17, 1958 to Freddie and Lessie Lee Isreal in Jacksonville, Florida. He departed this life Wednesday, July 8, 2020 – at the age of 61.
Freddie graduated from Paxon Senior High School in 1976. Following high school, he attended Mississippi Valley State University where he joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and served as one of the university’s best ever halftime band announcers. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from Edward Waters College and proudly earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Phoenix.
Freddie dedicated his life to educating students at Holy Rosary Catholic School, Empowering Young Minds Academy, and in the Duval County Public Schools system (John Love Elementary, Long Branch Elementary and Brentwood Elementary among others). He led and organized school, church, and community choirs, which performed locally and nationally during his illustrious career. In the summer months, Freddie fulfilled the legacy of his late sister, Thelma Marie Daniels, by leading Camp TOP, which is an educational and enrichment program that has served thousands of youth throughout Jacksonville. During local, state, and federal political elections, he also served as a deputy for the Supervisor of Elections in Duval County.
As a devout believer and ordained minister, Freddie was an active and dedicated member of True Holiness Deliverance Tabernacle where he served as a choral director and minister of music.
One adjective – grand – most appropriately describes Freddie, a man of exquisite taste and perfection. Still, he was humble and modest in his approach to life and while conducting business. Indeed, Freddie was a multi-faceted and talented person. As many can attest, he was a fantastic dancer (to R&B music prior to salvation and gospel music after dedicating his life to Christ), an exceptional cook with master chef skills, a dynamic and entertaining choral director, and an esteemed violist, who performed with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and in the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
Beloved by all, Freddie will be remembered as an uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, confidant, and coach, who was passionate about education, music, giving back to the community, and the spiritual wellbeing of those he met and knew – and there were many in Jacksonville and around the United States. No doubt, he impacted the lives of many with his affectious personality, a direct approach to speaking his mind and setting the record straight, his willingness to help someone in need or by listening and offering advice and words of encouragement. We will miss Freddie’s warm smile and loving hugs that greeted us upon our arrival and departure from his presence.
Freddie leaves three nephews, Bryan C. Daniels, Ph.D., James Daniels, and Gerald Daniels, and their families to celebrate his life. In addition, he leaves several loving family members: Alma Butler, Valerie Ducksworth, Patricia Gibbs, Jennifer Gibbs-Phillips, Leroy Gibbs, Eddie Jones Jr., Von Easton, Kevin Fowler, Vanita Foster, Kecia Silas, Archie-Con Grover, Birty Davis III, Wilbur Davis, Ronnie Davis, Jessie Nightingale, Carrie Cotton; and a host of other relatives, colleagues, friends, and fraternity brothers.
The funeral service for Freddie Anthony Isreal, Jr. will be held 10:30 am Saturday, July 18th, 2020 at the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens 800 Hammond Blvd Jacksonville, Florida 32221. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, July 17th, 2020 at the True Holiness Deliverance Tabernacle 221 E 27th Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
