Obituary for George Frank Carter III

George Frank Carter, III was born in Albany, Georgia on March 5, 1949, to the late George Frank Carter, Jr. and Georgia Mosely Carter Johnson (Walter). He accepted Christ at an early age; he was baptized at the Westside Church of Christ on September 8, 1974. He served as a Deacon, Asst. Treasurer, Life Group Leader, a member of the Westside Singers, and active on various committees. He moved his membership to Riverview Church of Christ in 2017. He attended Duval County Public Schools graduating from New Stanton High School Class of 1967; he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Business Administration with a minor in African American Studies from The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He was a member of the Theta Phi chapter Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He was the founder and owner of George F. Carter Insurance Agency for over 42 years, which later merged with Associates Consortium giving him over 48 years of dedicated service in the insurance industry. During the latter part of his career, he was a realtor, Officer/Director of The National African American Business League, and the first African American Stockbroker in Jacksonville, FL.

George met and married the love of his life Veronica M. Harris on November 24, 1972 and from this union, he had two daughters, the late Nitosha S. Carter and LaShonda N. Carter. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Jamie, Jolisa, Jessica and Jorge. He was very instrumental in each of his grandchildren lives and raised them as his own. He departed this life on May 28, 2021.

George was well loved and leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife, Veronica Harris Carter; daughters, Nitosha S. Carter (Deceased) and LaShonda N. Carter; grandchildren, Jamie N. King, Jolisa C. Cannon, Jessica T. Baker and Jorge E. Dallas; siblings, Willie Clint Carter (Joan), Rosa Lee Griffin (Curtis, Deceased), Mary Alice Johnson (Garry), Gregory Alphonso Johnson (Deceased), Glen Johnson, Shellene R. Johnson, Donald Plazz (Deceased), in laws, Marian Gilmore (Dwayne); god parents, Mr. & Mrs. Leon Butler; godchildren, Pamela Greene, Stacey Chin, Daniela Griffin, Leah Anderson, Josiah Malcom, Derrelle Burge, Phillip Daniels, and Darius Butler; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in Christ, neighbors, and many sorrowing friends.

The funeral service for George Frank Carter III will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at the Westside Church of Christ, 23 W. 8th Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. The visitation will be 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 11th, 2021 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden, 4315 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Restlawn Cemeteries South.
