Obituary for James Scott

James Scott was born November 24, 1936 in Valdosta, Georgia to David and Ozella Everette.  He was baptized into Christ as a child at Southside Church of Christ in Valdosta, GA and continued his devoted service as a dedicated member of the Lord’s church under the leadership of Bro. Thornton Brown, minister of the Westside Church of Christ in Jacksonville, FL until his death.

As a child, James attended grammar school, and as a young man he worked with his family as a farm hand picking cotton and tobacco.  After moving to Jacksonville, James worked as a short-order cook and he was always appreciated for his kindness, respect for others, and his sense of humor.

When James’ sight began to diminish, through the providence of God, he was lovingly cared for by Bro. Frank Hall.  Bro. Hall and Bro. Scott were a “dynamic duo” in the Lord’s church – active as greeters, visiting the sick and shut-in, attending Men’s Training and they both loved to sing, sing, sing.

In December 2007, Bro. Frank Hall married Sis. Frances Hall and the “dynamic duo” became the “three musketeers”.  Bro. & Sis. Hall continued to tenderly care for James until Bro. Hall’s untimely passing in 2011. Bro. Hall’s request before he left this earth was that James would be cared for by Sis. Hall if he passed first.  Sis. Hall kept that promise and for 10 years she valiantly, tirelessly, and faithfully cared for Bro. Scott even as they both advanced in age and declined in health.  Although Sis. Hall’s children assisted her with James’ care, she was single-handedly responsible for his daily care and well-being.

We will never forget how James made us laugh.  His favorite sayings were “How you feel?”, Did you hear what I said?”, and “I got it!’  Although James lost his sight many years ago, he was fiercely independent and rarely accepted help.

God in his infinite wisdom called from our midst, our beloved James Scott, early Sunday morning on February 28, 2021 while in the care of Community Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Grace Reynolds and Annette Scott.
