Obituary

A Time for Everything… Ecclesiastics 3:1-2

A Time to be Born: Jennie Lee Scott was born on July 10, 1947 in Barnwell, SC to Mr. and Mrs. Willie and Ruby Green. She was the youngest of four children.

A Time to Serve: At the age of 12, Jennie received Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was subsequently baptized at Bethel Baptist Church on July 15, 1959. She has been a faithful and devoted member and Sunday school teacher for over 50 years at St. Matthews Baptist Church.

A Time to Learn: Jennie graduated from Matthew Gilbert High School. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Florida Community College at Jacksonville. While continuing her education, she decided to change her major to special education so she could better understand and help her special needs daughter. She taught at Ruth N. Upson until it was decided it would be best for her to stay home to care for her daughter.

A Time for Family: Jennie married the love of her life, James Edward Scott, Sr., on January 27, 1966. This union produced three children, James Edward Jr., Pamela Elaine, and William Edward. She loved and supported this family tree as it produced three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A Time to Die: Jennie departed this earthly realm and entered into eternal rest to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, May 1, 2020.

A Time to Mourn: Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Ruby Green, her loving husband, James Scott, Sr.; children: James Scott, Jr. and Pamela Scott; brother: Leroy Green, and sister-in-laws: Mary (Jerry) Houston, Diane Scott, and Pernese Burnell. Jennie leaves to forever cherish her memory, her youngest son, William (Andrea) Scott of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: Nicole Scott of Jacksonville, FL, James Scott of Chicago, IL, and Seargent Micah Scott of San Diego, CA; great grandson: Tyson Godboldt of Jacksonville, FL; sisters: Mary Green and Ruby Green of Baltimore, MD; sisters-in-law: Esther (Willie) Sawyer of Aliquipa, PA; nephews: Frank (Teri’) Burnell and Jeffrey Burnell of Jacksonville, FL, Terry Green and Tyrone Cooke of Baltimore, MD; nieces: Esterlita Taylor and Diane Robinson of Ambridge, PA; great nephews: Kevin and Jason Burnell of Jacksonville, FL, and Tyrone Cooke Jr. of Baltimore, MD; great niece: Danielle Cooke of Baltimore, MD.; a close friend for many decades: Dorothy Hall; along with a host of great nephews, great nieces, family members, fellow dedicated church members and cherished friends.
