Mr. Joe Evans, Jr., a.k.a. “Cooda” (80), was born in Yulee, Florida to the late Joseph and Dorothy Mae Evans. He was born April 25, 1941 and departed this life on Thursday, February 17, 2022. He was the oldest of eleven siblings (three of which are deceased). He attended Nassau County schools and was a graduate of Peck High School in Fernandina Beach, Florida. He played baseball in school and the community, where he had an “awesome left-handed pitch”.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Annie Louise Williams on February 29, 1964. To this union four children were born, Rodney (deceased), Lisa, Karen, and Joe III.
Mr. Joe was employed with the St. Regis Paper Company which later became Smurfit Stone for over 30 years.
Although he was not a formal member of a church, he accepted Christ as his Savior before departing this life. He was a former faithful member of the Silver Square Lodge #703. His passions were for farming, he could grow anything and raising animals. He would keep some for himself and sell some.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: John, Jacqueline, and Kenneth. He leaves to forever cherish his memory a loving and devoted family: wife, Annie Louise: children: Lisa (Eldolphus) Holmes, Karen Lockett, and Joe III (Claire Evans); siblings, Doris Sims, Joyce Jones, Gwendolyn Ralph (Frankie), Wanda (Ronald) Jackson, Gregory Evans, Sharon Evans, Sara Harvey, and Gary Evans; brother-in-law, John Williams; aunt, Eloise Davis; uncle, Thomas Blue (Diane), aunt, Rosa Green, aunt, Victoria Davis; beloved grandchildren: Kayla Knox, Danielle Evans, Aisalyn Lockett, Malaya Evans, Ayden Holmes, and Josiah Evans; great-grandchildren, Tristin Hiers and Kali Farrell; extended family: Raymond Johnson (Ronnie) and Kevin Lockett; close friends: John and James Johnson; David Ferguson; special family friends: Minister Mary Calhoun, Minister Carolyn Jacobs; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.
The funeral service for Joe Evans Jr. will be held 1PM Saturday, February 26th, 2022 at the The Journey Church 95707 Amelia Concourse Fernandina Beach, FL. The visitation will be 5 - 7:00PM , Friday, February 25th, 2022 at the mortuary Beach 410 Beech Street Fernandina Beach, FL. Interment in O'neil Cemetery.
