Obituary for Joseph Henry "Geech" Clinton
Joseph Henry Clinton, grandson of Reverend Joseph C. Clinton, a prominent South Carolina African Methodist Episcopal Church pastor, and son of Joseph and Ophelia Clinton was born in Jacksonville, Florida, January 10, 1943. From early childhood he was a member of Saint Paul AME church where he participated in Sunday School and the Youth Choir. While matriculating at Northwestern High School, Jacksonville, Florida, Joseph was actively engaged in football and other athletic programs. Subsequent to high school, he enlisted into the United States Army and was a dedicated military serviceman in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, and Green Beret for over 35 years. After his military retirement, he was employed by the City of Jacksonville and the United States Postal Services. After the latter retirement, Joseph worked diligently with T.S. Warden and Q. L. Douglas Funeral Homes, Jacksonville, Florida. He was also a faithful member of the American Legion, Jacksonville, Florida.
Joseph was passionate about traveling and various sports activities, such as football, basketball, fishing, hunting, the Daytona 500 and Gatornationals. He was extremely fond of the Florida A&M University Marching 100. In addition, Joseph was extremely proud when he attended both Inaugurations for former President Barack Obama.
Friends constantly said that, “Joseph was a good person and always willing to help others”.
Joseph transitioned on April 1, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida. Joseph Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ophelia Clinton and brother, Gerald Lavern Clinton, Jacksonville, Florida.
Joseph Henry Clinton is survived by twin sons, Jarvis and Joseph, of Jacksonville, Florida, Granddaughter; Kayla Benton, Jacksonville, Florida, Siblings; Dr. Jean DeVard-Kemp (Calvin), Fayetteville, Georgia, Dr. Audrey Clinton Fisher, Ellenwood, Georgia, Dr. Evelyn Joyce Clinton, Southfield, Michigan, Nephew; John Clark DeVard, Ellenwood, Georgia Nieces; Dr. Rhonda Jordan Shinall (John) Jonesboro, Georgia, Jerri DeVard Smith (Gregg) Boca Raton, Florida, great nieces, nephews, and significant other beloved relatives and friends.
