Joyce Elizabeth Booker was born in Jacksonville, Florida to William and Elizabeth Snowden on February 11, 1933. She grew up with her younger brother William Snowden Jr. and even took care of him after the passing of their parents. Joyce gave her life to Christ at an early age, uniting with Saint Stephen’s A.M.E Church, where she attended up to her passing.
Throughout Joyce’s life, she was a very well-educated, spiritual, creative, crafty, and artistic person. She would frequently be working on various art projects and motivated her grandchildren to pursue interests that have shaped who they are today.
Joyce graduated from Governor State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies and the National College of Education with a Master’s in Education. During her career, she worked at a library, taught all subjects to sixth graders, and taught high school students.
On May 11, 1955, Joyce married Pepper Robert Booker in Jacksonville, Florida. They had a long and loving marriage together for 65 years. During this marriage, they raised one son and two daughters, Darryl, April, and Lorna Booker. They raised a strong and successful family that exudes positivity and love.
Joyce was called home to Christ on Easter Sunday, April 4th, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, April Mosley.
Joyce leaves behind positive, influential, and loving memories and a family to continue her legacy: husband, Pepper Robert Booker; son, Darryl Booker (Kimberly, daughter-in-law); daughter, Lorna Booker; son-in-law, Dwayne Mosley; grandchildren, Phillip Mosley, Steven Mosley, India Booker, Jordan Booker, Adia Moore, and Maia Moore; and a host of relatives and great friends she has met along the way.
The funeral service for Joyce Elizabeth Booker will be held 11:30 am Tuesday, April 13th, 2021 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 12th, 2021 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden - Samuel C. Rogers, Jr. Memorial Chapel, 4315 N Main St, Jacksonville, FL 32206.
