Obituary for Kate Allene Lewis

Mother Kate Allene Hunter-Lewis was born in Sylvania, Georgia in Screven County on August 26, 1931 to Jessie and Shelly Hunter. She confessed Christ at the of 10, uniting with Go Lord Baptist Church. She attended school in Screven County.

Mother Lewis married Isaiah Lewis in Screven County Georgia on May 8, 1948. To this union six children were born.

Mother Lewis was a blessing to many through many ministries of service as an Evangelist, Sunday School Teacher, Ways and Means President GOGIC, Nursing Guild COGIC Worldwide, member of the 7-Up for Christian Ministry Speakers, retired after 18 years as a Nursing Assistant at Baptist Hospital, Beautician at Tobis Salon (top salon in the 60’s on Davis Street), Seamstress and Tailor for Pete Mendez, Private Caregiver to the City of Jacksonville, Life member of the Florida Junior College Nursing Department, and Faust Temple COGIC. She loved serving people and was a true servant of the Lord, and the world’s greatest mother to her six children and grandchildren.

Mother Lewis departed this life of Thursday, April 22, 2021 and was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, daughter, Regenia E. Lewis-Rivers; sisters, Nonia Bell, Ona Lee, Gussie Ree, Jessie Mae, Waldine; brothers, Lee Arthur, David, Joseph, Robert, Lee Addis and Ozzie.

Mother Lewis leaves to mourn her passing: daughters, Cathy V. Barther (Ronald) and Zerelda L. Thomas-Lewis (Larry); son, Derrick Lewis; sister, Ernestine Hunter; brother, James Arthur Hunter (Elaine); a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, Yah’Qwan and Ga’briella; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral service for Kate Allene Lewis will be held 10:00 am Saturday, May 1st, 2021 at the Restlawn Cemeteries, 2600 Ribault Scenic Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32208. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 30th, 2021 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden, 4315 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Restlawn Cemeteries.
