Obituary for Kenneth Wayne Mayfield

Kenneth (Ken) Wayne Mayfield was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on July 1, 1949 to his parents, Eva Mae Mayfield and Edward L. Mays. He had 3 siblings that preceded him in death (Michael Mayfield, Elizabeth Williams, and Sheila Mayfield) and 3 surviving siblings (Dennis Wilson, Deitrich Wilson, and Sarah D. Mays).

He married Irene Ward on April 10, 1973 in Jacksonville, Florida and they had two children, Tonya Mayfield and Veronica Mayfield Fulton. He was the proud Poppa of Taryn Mayfield and proud PawPaw of Kennan Mayfield Fulton. Kenneth served in the United States Marines for 8 years and retired from Anheuser Busch.

Ken loved the Lord, the church, and served as a Sunday School teacher and Elder of Lincoln Villa/First Coast Church of Christ for many years. He was an avid reader, technology hobbyist, and a lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan.

His love of others was evident through his eagerness to listen, help, provide guidance and mentor others. He was the ultimate family man, often stating “family is who you say they are.” It is that belief that formed his relationship with his son, Ricky Smothers and endeared Ken to so many. He departed this life on February 17, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, children, grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Kenneth Wayne Mayfield passed away Thursday, February 17th, 2022 . Arrangements in Care of: Funerals by T.S. Warden, 904-765-1234.
