Obituary for Laurene Brown
Laurene Brown was born on November 18, 1938 to Walter and Carrie Lee Mitchell in Angelica, Georgia. She confessed Christ at an early age, uniting with Murchison Temple CME Church, where Reverend Odom baptized her. Laurene was very active in her church, as well as served for 44 years on the usher boards. She received her education from S.P. Livingston, James Weldon Johnson, and (Old) Stanton High School. Her career throughout life was a CNA, with 5 years at St. Vincent’s Hospital and 45 years at Eartha M. M. White Nursing Home.
Laurene departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Mitchell and mother, Carrie Lee Mitchell.
Laurene leaves to mourn her passing: two daughters, Rutha Williams (Myles Williams) and Sheila Mitchell Jefferson; three sons, Joseph Anthony Mitchell, Larry Darnell Mitchell and Michael Eric Decembre; survived by her partner, Jesse Harrington; one sister, Bessie Lee McCloud; 14 grandchildren, Sabrina Mitchell, Sakenia Frazier (Benjamin), LaTanya Mitchell, Tijuana King, Cecil L. King, Jr., Dutchess Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell, Cecil Lance King (Victoria), Larrita Mitchell, Kynshala Decembre, Mica Decembre, Michael E. Decembre, Jr., Amerion Decembre and Kahnya Mitchell; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one nephew, Tommie McCloud; three close sister/usher friends, Theresa Gordon, Mildred Lewis and Gloria Presha; and a host of other relatives and friends.
