Obituary for Lenreatha H Sawyer

Early in the morning of October 1, 2018, Lenreatha H. Sawyer, slept away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. A native of Apopka, Florida, she graduated from Hungerford High School in Eatonville, Florida on June 1950. She also earned an Associate’s Degree from Lincoln Business College in 1962.

Lenreatha had a vast career working as an administrative assistant in the field of education and private industry. She loved children and worked for many schools including; Hungerford High School, Kissimmee High School, and R.V. Daniels Elementary School.

Lenreatha was employed with Florida Junior College for 38 years until her retirement. At the highlight of her career Lenreatha was the personal secretary and bookkeeper for the late Adrian Ken Knight and the National Association of Radio/Television Announcers. She also served as the secretary for the late Ernest D. Jackson, Esq., and for the late Eric O. Simpson, editor, for the Florida Star Newspaper.

Lenreatha was a faithful member of St. Paul A. M. E Church and served on the finance committee, culinary ministry, and was a founding member of the Young at Heart Senior Ministry. She was recently honored as Member Emeritus for years of dedicated service. She remained active in the church until her health declined.

Lenreatha was predeceased in death by her parents, Alexander Crumady and Maude Ethel Garvin Hogan; husband, Isaac L. Sawyer; dear grandmother, Ada Johnson Garvin; and her loving sister, Mrs. Edna Mae Thomas.
Lenreatha leaves to cherish her memories a loving, devoted, caregiver, and oldest daughter, Marie H. Mobley; daughter, Faye L. Hogan; grandchildren, VaShawn Guice Veal (Tony), Sheri Williams, Luciana M. White, LaVar M. Hogan (Ardrina), and Tamika Harrington Hill; several great grandchildren; sister, Rosa K. Brown; niece, Sherry Barnes (Calvin); nephews, Jessie T. Henderson, Jr., Wallace Leon Henderson; grand-niece, Tonya H. Eaton (Tim); cousins, Samuel L. Terry, Jr., Ronald Terry, Pamela Pride, and Avery Terry, and special family friend and caregiver, Litel Mobley. Best friends, Earlene Wade Waldon, Mary Nelson, and Priscilla Brown, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Lenreatha H. Sawyer will be held 10AM, Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at the St. Paul A. M. E. Church 6910 New Kings Road.
