Lois DeVaughn
Lois Jones-DeVaughn was born August 22, 1941 in Alachua, Florida. The 12th of 13 children, Lois was raised in Lake Butler, Florida by her sharecropper parents, Deacon Doris and Zola (Hedgeman) Jones. The family was active members of Hopewell AME Church. Lois attended Lake Butler Consolidated High School and served in numerous roles; she was a majorette and selected salutatorian of the Lake Butler Consolidated High School, Class of 1959.

Upon graduating from high school, Lois moved to Jacksonville, Florida and shortly afterwards, she met and married her late husband, James L. DeVaughn, who preceded her in death in 1971. After her husband’s untimely death in 1971, Lois remained a widow while successfully raising their four (4) children.
