Obituary for Lorria Faye "Penny" Young (Adams)

Lorria Faye “Penny” Young was born on October 1, 1958 in Jacksonville, Florida to Theodore O. Adams, Sr. and Edna L. Williams. She confessed Christ and united with St. James Missionary Baptist Church in St. Augustine, FL where she was baptized by Reverend Nathaniel Jackson and served as the choir director.

Lorria attended school in Jacksonville and received her diploma from Jean Ribault High School as a graduate of the Class of 1976. After returning to the United States in 1985, she was employed at Southern Bell, the US Post Office and eventually retired from the Internal Revenue Service.

Penny unquestionably loved the Lord. Her love for family ran just as deep. She was a collector of various items of great sentiment such as owls, tea pots, jewelry, and fine crystal but most of all, PEOPLE! Regardless of where her feet trod, she always found family; families and children that she called her own. She lived her life without regret and walked confidently in her gifts, most noteworthy, singing. Her natural 1st soprano voice was impactful and regarded. She served as choir director while stationed in Germany also in various churches throughout her travels. Her smile was perfect and infectious. Her skin was smooth as a new “penny”. So whether you called her momma, sister, Penny, Lorria Faye, aunite, grandma or friend, you will all agree that her heart loved hard, she lived the best she could and she definitely, sung her song.
