Obituary for Marvin Denmark Sr.

Marvin Denmark Sr. was born November 21, 1938 to Willie Roy and Minnie Denmark in Shellman (Randolph County) Ga. He was the 6th of 13 siblings. In 1955 he moved to Jacksonville, Fl. and married the love of his life, Mildred Blackmon. He was the owner of Denmark Tire Service for many years. His legacy inspired his son's to become entrepreneurs as well. On Friday, April 26, 2013 his journey ended on this side. He fought a good fight; he finished his course and can now rest from all his labor.
Marvin founded the legendary Modernaires Gospel Singers where he was the lead vocalist. He had a voice that was truly unique. He is best known for the gospel hit "God's Precious Love". The group traveled extensively with well-known Gospel Legends such as The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Pilgrim Jubilees, Tommy Ellison and the Five Singing Stars and many more. In 2009 Marvin was honored for his legacy as a Gospel singer at the First Annual Jacksonville Gospel Legends Music Awards.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his beautiful wife (2005) and his son (Marvin Jr.), brother Charlie James Denmark, three sisters Christine Denmark, Juel Sistrunk and C. Gladys Benton. He leaves to cherish his legacy and memories: Two daughters: Melissa McCarthan (James), Evangelist Sabrina Walker, god-daughter Alicia Simpson, daughter-in-law Cynthia Denmark (Marvin Jr. deceased) all of Jacksonville, Fl. Three sons: Calvin Tillman (Shelia) Denmark of Orlando Fl, Frank Denmark and Gary (Retonia) Denmark of Jacksonville Fl., a devoted former son-in-law Minister Fred Walker of Jacksonville Fl.
Twelve grandchildren: Christopher aka "Maurice" Denmark, Tamara (Pastor/Officer Morris) Halyard, Clarence Denmark, Angel Denmark, Tyrah Walker, Shaparis Denmark, Brandon Murphy-Denmark Dominique Townsend, Courtney Townsend, Pooh Townsend, Brad Walker and Fred Walker Jr.
Five great grandchildren: Ty’Onna Davis, Morris Halyard 4th, ZaMari Turner, Kendrick Spann, Miles Halyard Four sisters: Doris (Booker) Wilson, Dollie (Gerald) Seymour, Bobbie Jean Denmark and Carolyn (Sanford) Howard all of Orlando, Fl. Two brothers: Willie Lee “Hal"(Gloria) Denmark and Rev. Willie Roy (Seletha)Denmark Jr. both of Orlando Fl. a devoted brother -in- law Milton C. Benton. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.
The funeral service for Marvin Denmark, Sr. will be held 11 AM, SATURDAY at the Evergreen Missionary Baptist. Church 1100 Logan St. . The visitation will be held 5 - 7 PM FRIDAY at the church.
