Obituary for Marvin Leon Franklin Sr.

Marvin Leon Franklin, Sr., age 75, passed away Monday, September 5th, 2022.

On September 30th, 1946, he was 1 of 6 children born to the late Samuel and Carrie Franklin. Both parents and two siblings, Mercedes Jackson and Martin Franklin, preceded him in death.

In 1944, he graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School (New Orleans, LA.), after which he entered the United States Marine Corp in December 1966. After serving two tours in Vietnam, Lance Corporal Marvin Franklin left the US Marine Corp highly decorated. He was awarded a bronze star, given for heroic achievements in aerial flight.

In 1973, he began a career at Anheuser Busch which would span 32 years. First employed as a mechanic, he was later promoted to shop steward. Marvin was also the president of the Teamsters Union Local 947 from 1982 to 2005.

Marvin was blessed to find his soulmate, Denise in 1992 and the two were married in 2006. Her faithful care and devotion carried him until his final breath A shared love of travel kept he and his wife all over the world. The two made friends with the unlikeliest of strangers and always came home with a few stories to tell.

Marvin could best be described as tough, but fair. He was as comfortable in a boardroom as he was on the golf course or softball field. His sense of humor was unmatched, he was a big jokester, and his laughter was guaranteed to lighten the mood.

Everyone who knew Marvin felt his big heart and giving nature. Only God knows how, but he was always in the right place, in the right moment, for the right people, at the right time. He lived a full life and his countless, long-lasting friendships are proof of just how much he was also loved. His children all agree that his guidance, love, support, and faith in God have allowed them to be who they are today.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Denise Franklin; children: Marvin Franklin Jr., Mark Whitsett Sr. (Bernita), Marvia Franklin (Rhonda), and Randrea Mitchell; step-children: Denise Neal, Wanda Fort, Paris Fort, and Darryl Fort; siblings: Milton Franklin, Malcom Franklin Sr. (Ellen), and Marzieh Hashemi; And a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
