Obituary for Marvin Jerome Quarterman Sr.

On September 27, 1949, Mr. & Mrs. Ike and Dollie Quarterman welcomed a bouncing baby boy whom they named Marvin Jerome Quarterman. He was the youngest of five children. Marvin received his education from Long Branch Elementary and Matthew W. Gilbert Junior/Senior High School, where he was a part of the marching band. He graduated from Matthew W. Gilbert Junior/Senior High School in 1967.

After graduating from high school, Marvin joined the U.S. Navy where he served two years from 1969-1971. He then became employed by the International Longshoremen’s Association. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service. Marvin was well known out East 21st street as “Chilli.” Among hobbies, he coached at Kooker Park for many years.

Marvin Quarterman, Sr. was preceded in death by a number of loved ones: his parents, Ike and Dollie Quarterman; sister, Gladys Perry; brothers, Ike Quarterman, Jr., Nathaniel Quarterman, and Earl Quarterman, Sr.; and niece, Linda Quarterman.

Marvin Quarterman, Sr. leaves to cherish a loving and devoted wife, Willie Ruth Quarterman; sons, Gary Smith, Marvin Quarterman Jr., and Martez Quarterman; granddaughter, Raven Smith; mother-in-law, Annie Ruth Holt; sisters-in-law, Mae Quarterman (Taneck, NJ), Addie Quarterman, and Shirlene (Johnny) Locus; and other in-laws, from Gainesville, FL; brothers-in-law, Alexander (Barbara) Holt and Michael (Bernice) Holt; nieces, Patricia Averitt, Cherie Quarterman (Albany, NY), Rhonda Williams, Lisa Quarterman, and Whitney Glover; grandnieces, Earlyssia, Riquel, Laila, Zola, Craven, Synclaire, and Janae; nephews, Ronald Quarterman (Willingboro, NJ), Richie Perry, Earl Quarterman Jr., Robert Perry Jr., Johnny (Chele) Tebot (NY), Bennie Washington, and Chris Williams; grandnephews, John (Sherrian) Bush Jr. (Memphis, TN), Raphael Williams Jr., Earl Quarterman III, and Ja’Juan Dowell; godchildren, Pastor Corey Brown (VA) and Shantell Brown (Atlanta, GA); best friends, Dea. John Quarterman and Judy Brown; and Home Care Nurse, Lisa Chatman.
