Obituary for Mary Baker
Mary was born on June 8, 1925, the 3rd oldest of seven children born to Gordon and Harriett Gilbert in Sparta Georgia. She attended school there. Mary was baptized at Brown Chapel A.M.E. In 1953, Mary married the late Julius C. Baker, Sr. Shortly afterwards they moved to Jacksonville, Florida, their home. To this union five loving children, were born.
Mary started out doing domestic work, later she was employed by the Duval County School Board as a student aide at Biltmore Exceptional School. Mama also worked for the Bussell Family for many years.
Mary departed this life June 18, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Jerald.
Mary leaves to cherish her wonderful legacy her children, Shelby, Chauncey (Cynthia), Judy (Glenn) and Julius Jr.; she raised our cousin, Evelyn Nesbitt as her own; also her pet child Miss Patti; she raised and spoiled five loving grandchildren, Ronald (Eboni), Natasha, Deondre, Delvron and Jazmine; the spoiling continued with seven great-grandchildren, Karon, Roniyah, Morgan, Bria, Kelsey, Kelyse and Kevin; two sisters-in-law, Daisey Tucker and Carrie Gilbert; loving nieces, Diane, Rose Marie, Rose Mary and Tonya all of Jacksonville, Florida, Tangie, Marsha, Linda and Brenda all of Sparta, Georgia and many more; loving nephews, Julius, Darren, Donte and many more; numerous great nieces and nephews; godchildren, Tara, Dorzell, Tracey, Carolyn, Pat, Frankie, Mischa and Leroy; long time friends, The Gallon, Bryant, Richardson and Lawrence families.
The funeral service for Mary Baker will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 29th, 2019 at the New Life Fellowship Church 1451 Mt. Herman Street Jacksonville, FL 32209. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Friday, June 28th, 2019 at the Funerals By T. S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
