Obituary for Mattie Lewis

Mattie Mae Lewis was the only child born to the late Willie (papa) and Minnie Perry on January 14, 1932. She had a host of cousins that acted as her sisters and brothers, Browine Moore, Sarah Lula Bell, Mary Royster Dupree, Lewis Mingo and John (JW) Royster Jr. On April 8, 1959 Mattie married the love of her life, Henry L. (Big Boy) Lewis, Sr. from this union two sons and two daughters were born, Alphonso, Henry, Gloria and Karen. 

Mattie established herself as a business owner, she was a Cosmetologist and Seamstress. She worked years for Times Union Newspaper, and as a Daycare Teacher. Mattie became a member of the Church of Christ in 1962 under the leadership of Bro. Matthew Moore Sr. at 15th Street Church of Christ in Pompano Beach, Florida, In1981 she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she became a member of Eastside Church of Christ, under Bro. Charlie Moore, she moved her membership to Westside Church of Christ, under Bro. Willie (Pete) Jackson, then lived the reminder of her years out at the Northbound Church of Christ, under Bro. Elisha Taylor Jr.

On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, Mattie succumbed  to death and peacefully slept away. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Henry Lee Lewis, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Nanette Lewis.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are four children, Alphonso Williamson (Jersey), Sheryl Williamson O'Neal (special friend), Henry L. Lewis, Jr., Gloria J. Lewis Murray (Ronnie), and Karen L. Lewis Shell (Major); ten grandchildren, Duane Williamson (Janette), LaMisha Wimberly (Will), Henry Lewis, April Smalls (T.J), Ronnie Murray, Christal Lewis, Alyssia Hayes (Troy), Tony Lewis, Jacynta Lewis, and Kayla Jones; twenty-one, great-grandchildren, Kiana, Duane, Kievan, JaRenta, Dajuan, Jyniyha, Jaylen, JaTiareya,  Jaslynn, Breyaun, Chanelle, Jaylon, Dynyle, Phillip, Zion, Camariah, Madisyn, Kadyn, Christian, Gordyn, Jikoby; nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Deonna Henderson; adoptive goddaughter, Theresa Debose; a host of other relatives and many friends.
